My World, My Life, My Momments

I'll try to stop in here and keep things rollin. It sounds like a great way for me to just breathe, reflect and think about all things important to me.

Organic, local, backyard grown

Part of the process of the change to nourishing foods and good ingredients is switching to organic when ever possible. Locally grown says it all. The closer the food is to you the less fuel needed to truck/fly it across the world. And likely the food that is grown at a farm near you has not been poisoned with pesticides and funky fertilizers. I still go with local produce items that don't say Organic. It's costly for a farm to get the certification from the FDA for Organic, and with that certification the price of the product goes up!

I belong to a Healthy Living Co Op. We get local dairy, produce (some local, some out of area), fair trade/organic coffee, we get to order from a fabulous company called Azure Standard We have some other options too. Because we buy in a group, we get some price breaks and it allows my family and the families in the group to cost effectively purchase supreme ingredients and foods!

Another place I shop is Costco. They are definately jumping on the organic band wagon. And again, buying in larger numbers brings the cost down.

I've been buying organic produce there for a few years, and slowly they've been adding other kitchen ingredients to their wharehouse shelves.

Here's the things I buy:

Organic Butter

Organic White Sugar

Organic EVOO~this just showed up since my last visit 2 weeks ago!!!

Organic Carrots, Spinach and salad mix

Organic Toaster Pastries ~the boys and even Daddies little guilty pleasure

I buy meat from there, but supplement as much as I can afford of local and or natural beef and pork.

I buy alot of my baking ingredients, nuts and spices there and cheeses.

Now I only use organic flour. I have a white unbleached flour from Red Mill and a white whole wheat from Azure. I use alot of Organic ingredients from Bob's Red Mill.

I use organic tomato products.

I buy only organic fruit and mostly organic veggies.

I also use alternative flours. I use brown rice pasta or quinoa pasta (which is blended with corn flour). And buckwheat noodles are fab when used with a spicey beef sauce. I'll share that recipe soon!
